Story Development

At the moment I am wring a story for a new short film that is thought to be released in 2015.

Shadow
Back Shot Daniel (Shadow) walking.
The film opens with Daniel (Shadow) heading to a location (Fiddien) because he is on a mission. On his way to the location he has flashback of his past. When he arrives next to a small cottage he tries to sneak in from the front door. When he enters he finds no one. When he enters and he faces a wall we see Elton (Demon) sitting on chair behind him but when Daniel (shadow) turns around Elton (demon) isn’t there. When Daniel (Shadow) turns facing the wall again he finds Elton (demon) in front of him and he gets shocked and when he draws his blade Elton (demon) disappears.

While Elton is not being seen he starts to speak to Daniel (Shadow) about his past and what he has done. He asks him if he wants to work for him bur he refuses. After a small conversation between them Elton (Demon) shows up and tells Daniel (Shadow) that he will pay for what he did and he vanishes. Daniel (Shadow) tells him that if he touches his wife he promises he will find him and kill him. Daniel (Shadow) is locked inside and he can’t do anything to save his wife before Elton (Demon) kills her. Daniel tries to go out and after some time he hears Elton (Demon) voice and his wife screaming and then Daniel (Shadow) tells Elton (Demon) he will kill him and shouts.

After what happened shadow wants to have his revenge. This scene we will see Shadow training insanely so he is capable to defeat the demon. We see him train with blades and if possible a punching bag.  While he is training he has flash backs of him self with hjis wife before she was killed. He goes ona table and finds her necklace and gets even more mad.

Research on the Malta film Commission

Filming in Malta

The Government of Malta has recently upgraded the cash rebates for filmmakers making the financial guidelines more attractive to the film industry. Productions which satisfy a cultural test can benefit from a rebate up to 25% of eligible expenditure with an additional 2% if the production features Malta culturally. Qualifying productions are required to present a provisional application to the Malta Film Commission, including a detailed projection of the Malta budget for the production. The rebate is given once filming is complete and on receipt of the audit report and upon final review by the Commissioner, the cash rebate is forwarded to the qualifying production no later than five months from the date of receipt of the presented production expenditure in Malta.
Feature film, Television film or Television Series or Mini-Series, Animation, Creative documentary, Transmedia and Crossmedia productions are all eligible for the incentives, provided that they are all or partially produced in Malta.
Qualifying expenditure incurred during production in Malta on EU services is eligible for a cash rebate, including the following items:
EU below-the-line labour, accommodation, transportation equipment and hire, location fees, catering services, per diems, leasing of offices, computer equipment, props, property, animals, equipment, vehicles, and boats. Other qualifying expenditure includes wardrobe rentals, courtesy payments, telecommunications, craft service, laundry and cleaning services and professional services.

DVD Covers

For our final Graphic Design assignment we had to create our own DVD Cover. Though brainstorming I designed my own DVD case and I an quite satisfied with my final result.

We also had to create CD print for our Trailer. I have created two because I had two ideas and designed them both. I still have to choose which one I will use as my final CD print.

Parkour Research

Parkour :

While doing research about parkour, I was reading an online article advising traceurs  to ignore the fancy moves and have fun and this led me to an even more detailed research. Parkour is not a sport that you can earn money with, the one’s practising this sport love doing it because movement is all they can think of.
Films, documentaries and advertisements featuring these practitioners show that training parkour mainly consists of general landing techniques, quadrupedal movements, climbing, running and balancing.
‘The main issue is to go from point A to point B by getting over obstacles with speed and efficiency together with your own imagination.’ (Marco Gomes)
Although parkour is fun its main purpose is discipline to all participants but this connotates accidents because of the environment and if not wearing suitable equipment and clothing. Whatever one wears should always be lightweight and flexible. The reason being not to add any extra weight and make sure that clothes are not too tight. Research shows that gloves and shoes can add extra grip when climbing. With regards to danger and accidents traceurs consider this as part of life risks. For them life is a permanent risk and they consider parkour as dangerous as crossing the road and getting hit by a car. ‘Free runners hurt in roof top shooting’ (West Sussex Country Times – August 2013)
For David Belle, the founder of parkour, parkour is a form of martial arts because in it you face your obstacles and you overcome them by thinking in advance. Researching online parkour magazines I realized that there are international parkour teams such as Storror and some popular personalities like Ryan Doyle and Toby Segar. I found out that even competitions like The Red Bull Art of Motion are held up in various countries like Greece and each event is about the taking part more than winning.
Members of society tend to be shocked when seeing someone doing parkour because they consider it useless and dangerous, but in fact it is not. It is mainly about training to know what to do when facing real life scenarios. People earn to trust themselves, be courageous and careful.
Going into further detail I found that here in Malta there are teenagers practising this sport in local parks. In Januray 2014 the Mosta Council decided to build a Parkour Park located at Blata L-Gholja in Mosta to prevent any injuries in streets and local disturbances.

In other countries those effected by parkour are mainly students which benefit from it both physically and mentally. They have school programmes in which they practise this sport during school hours. Their coaches are fully qualified and experienced teachers holding also First-aid training. The Maltese society does not consider this as such and because of this heads of school ban parkour training during school hours.

Comenius - France Trip

I was chosen to go to France to film and take photos of what we have seen and places we have been.
We visited very interesting places at Lens like museums and coal mountains.

I also filmed  the Art students doing some sketches and painting the graffiti.

After Effects

Doing Stuff with After Effects is one of the main thing I do when I take breaks from my assignments. I find some tutorials on YouTube and always continue learning something new to improve my skills using this program.

This one I created has two different projects combined together. The trap code which is the light going into circles and the Audio spectrum which is linked to the beat of the song I chose.

Apple research

Apple

Apple was founded by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, who started working together in 1970 to create a personal computer. The Apple Company was incorporated in the state of California on January 3, 1977.

Previous Apple Advertising Campaigns

Think Different

Think different was an advertising slogan for Apple Inc. in 1997
In memory of Steve Jobs they wanted to share the story of one of the most successful campaigns in the history of advertising. During the 90’s Apple was in a crisis, and with only one campaign they have managed to re-establish Apple’s counter-culture that it had lost during the 90’s. This was achieved by releasing a 60 second advert.

Switch

Switch was an advertising campaign launched by Apple Computer on June 10, 2002 but was not very effective and was gradually phased out in 2003. It featured what the company referred to as "real people" who had "switched" from the Microsoft Windows platform to the Mac

The Darkness 2

The Darkness 2

The Darkness 2 is a gritty comic-book based videogame developed by Digital Extremes for Xbox 360
and PlayStation 3. Mainly this image is a long shot of a fun fare at Coney Island which is used as the
main scene of the game. The general colour scheme includes bright colours and an exposure of lighting
which are applied to give more detail to the environment. Putting the Carousel in the middle, gives it a
spinning e ect enabling on how the audience’s attention to be kept on the Carousel itself. This is
followed with the blurriness of the lights.

The practitioner, Jonathan Lax’s intention
was to reveal one of the most
exciting new area of the Darkness 2’s
campaign known as “The Carnival”.

These kind of concept arts encourage me as a student to continue my studies on graphic designing since such works show that with programs like Photoshop and 3Ds Max perceived imagery can be designed.

Smoking Photo Manipulation

Smoking Photo Manipulation

This incredible example of a Photo manipulation was taken with a Canon 450D on a balcony on
white paper, the ash and the smoke man is a composite of a 3D rendered man and hand painted
details. Containing an illustrative element and displaying a realistic approach, the colour scheme
used and layout of this image shows how a single cigarette can start the end of an individual’s life.

The practitioner wanted to send a message to
all cigarette smokers, stating that the
consumption of cigarettes harm both the ones
consuming cigarettes and the ones in society.

Combining certain elements to create a unique
image shows a creative set of skills were the
practitioner is involved.

The manipulation of this photo gives a realistic view of an unreal picture and this will surely help me in my
creativity when designing images.

“The Spherize filter used with soft edged selections was useful in getting a nice transition of the type gradually around the man’s head and body.”

-          “Extra care had to be taken to not lose the man’s facial features when creating the shading and distorting the lettering of the face.”

-          “Making the lettering on the man’s body get gradually bigger as it get close really helps to bring it forward and of the page.”

Editing with After Effects

Firstly I did a a basic 3D design of a Hidden Blade  from the Series Assassin's Creed with Auto Desk. After that I imported the rendered .mov file into After Effects and changed the Back Ground from black to an Assassin's Creed image. I did that by using Keylight from the Effects Control.

Unit 17 : Audio Processes and Techniques

Because of the amount of reverb we had with our recordings on location, we had to do some voice overs so the quality will be better. We firstly recorded the actor's voices using an M-Audio Vocal Studio voice recorder and than we synced the recordings with the footage in Premiere.
